There's something special about spending a day with farmers. You don't just sell products—you listen to stories, solve real challenges, share knowledge, and build relationships. That's exactly what we experienced at the 11th Annual Meru Dairy Farmers Field Day held at the Meru ASK Showground on 25th July 2026.
Our journey started early, and even before we arrived, we knew it would be a good day. The road trip was smooth, our driver kept us safe throughout the journey, and the excitement only grew as we got closer to Meru. By the time we reached the showground, it was time to roll up our sleeves and get to work.
Every Conversation Counted
While the turnout wasn't as high as in previous years—largely because another major farming event was happening on the same day—we quickly realized that the farmers who attended had come with one goal: to learn. They were curious, asked thoughtful questions, and genuinely wanted solutions that could improve their dairy farms.
Our stand stayed busy throughout the day.
We demonstrated veterinary equipment, explained how different products work, discussed dairy hygiene, breeding, disease prevention, and proper equipment maintenance. Best of all, many farmers didn't just ask questions—they made purchases on the spot after seeing how the products could benefit their farms.
Learning Goes Both Ways
One of the things I enjoy most about field days is that they're never one-sided. Yes, we share our expertise, but we also learn a great deal from the farmers.
One interesting discovery was that many dairy farmers in Meru are provided with CMT testing liquid free of charge. That immediately got us thinking about possible partnership opportunities that could benefit both farmers and Medilink in the future.
We also noticed something practical: although we had carried aluminium milking cans, there was a surprisingly strong demand for plastic milking cans. That's valuable market feedback that will certainly influence our future stock decisions.
The Little Things Matter
Marketing isn't always about flashy displays.
Sometimes it's the simplest ideas that draw people in. During the event, our promotional materials kept conversations flowing all day, and even simple treats like sweets and biscuits attracted visitors to our stand and created opportunities to start meaningful conversations.
To top it all off, we even made an appearance on Mt. Kenya Television—a pleasant surprise that gave Medilink even more visibility beyond the exhibition grounds.
Every Event Has Lessons
No event is perfect, and this one was no exception.
At the busiest moments, our stand was packed with visitors, making it difficult to attend to everyone as quickly as we would have liked. We also discovered that one of the milking machines we were demonstrating had a power cable that wasn't compatible with Kenyan sockets—an issue we'll ensure is corrected before future sales. And because the day was so engaging, we barely had enough time to take photos!
Looking Ahead
As I packed up at the end of the day, I couldn't help but smile.
The conversations we had, the farmers we met, the new customer leads we generated, and the relationships we strengthened reminded me why events like these matter. Our location at the showground turned out to be another advantage too. Many returning farmers already knew exactly where to find us, and the steady stream of visitors passing our stand near the entrance and exit gave us excellent exposure throughout the day.
Meru once again reminded us that successful farming is driven by people who never stop learning. We're proud to be part of that journey, providing practical veterinary equipment and trusted advice that help farmers build healthier animals, more productive farms, and stronger businesses.
To everyone who stopped by our stand—thank you. We look forward to seeing you again at the next field day!
